Back by popular demand, guided walks through Bayfield's Evergreen Cemetery will be conducted by Bayfield Heritage Tours, LLC on August 19 and periodically throughout the summer. This is the walk featured in "Around the Corner with John McGivern" a special about Bayfield shown on Wisconsin Public Television. Virginia Hirsch will lead the guided tour in the 1887 personal of Mrs. Currie Bell, wife of Bayfield's editor and owner of the Bayfield County Press.
The Bayfield cemetery walk will highlight Bayfield's early settlers, the Civil War, little angels, Victorian customs, the devastating 1942 flood, and the many varied types of inscriptions and tombstones found in this nearly 150 year old cemetery. Reservations are requested: 715-779-0299. The guide will collect $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 6 to 12.
The walk is about an hour and 20 minutes and covers less than a half mile on paved walkways. The cemetery is handicapped accessible. Please, no food, beverages (except for water), or smoking. The walks are conducted rain or shine; umbrellas are available. Please arrive 10 minutes early and park on the shoulder of the road.
